With the generous support of the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation, the SSMN is pleased to announce our annual grant competition! Our 2023 grant competition aims to support the research and professional development of our Sloan MPhD and SIGP alumni. Three grants are available for:

  1. Research Seed Funding (up to $10,000)
  2. Mentoring & Career Development (up to $5,000)
  3. Conference/Workshop Travel (up to $2,000)

Our streamlined application process requires a one page grant proposal, budget estimate, and curriculum vitae. For guidelines and information on how to apply, visit our Grant Competition page. Visit our Media Center for access to grant proposal cover sheets, samples of winning proposals from previous years, and other important grant resources.

Grant applications will open in January 2023. Submission deadline is March 19, 2023*.

*Please note that we have moved up our grant application deadline from previous years.

We look forward to supporting the professional development of our entire network in the new year through grants, leadership training, mentoring and networking opportunities!

Welcome SIGP Alumni & Malu!

We are excited to expand our community and welcome our SIGP graduates to the SSMN! Our new SSMN members are Master’s and PhD graduates of the Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership, a program under the Alfred P. Conference & Networking Events Poll

The Sloan Scholars Mentoring Network team is gearing up to host 2023 networking events in various locations across the country!

Please fill out our brief poll to let us know of your interest in attending upcoming networking events: SSMN Networking Event Poll.

For those dates/locations associated with a conference, you would not need to be a conference attendee to participate (all events will be held off site at a hotel or restaurant open to all). You can also suggest other cities or conference locations for us to hold an event. We look forward to seeing many of you in person this year!

Final dates and locations will be finalized in the next few months based on the responses received.

Career & STEM Opportunities

Visit our Jobs & Career page to view current postings for careers, jobs, and opportunities in STEM!

The SSMN attended a handful of conferences this fall with the intention of promoting and meeting Sloan Scholars in different professional spaces! SSMN board member, Dr. Steven Damo joined us at ACS in Chicago and together we were able to meet some current Sloan Scholars from our IL-Urbana UCEM as well as other alumni in chemistry disciplines.

We also attended AISES in Palm Springs where we met our SIGP Sloan Scholar community for the first time! We value getting to know our Sloan Scholars and their program directors.

Additionally, we recently hosted our SSMN Academic Job Market Bootcamp! This year’s biannual bootcamp aimed to support and equip our Sloan Scholars with tools to prepare for professions in academia. Look out for our upcoming post about the event.

While we were meeting our recent grads in Atlanta, SSMN board member, Dr. Darryl Williams represented us at SACNAS in San Juan, Puerto Rico! He was able to host a small networking hour for Sloan Scholars.

We look forward to hosting more events and connecting with you all in the new year!
